We build around the business, not the technology.

Arquos helps established businesses make better use of technology. We look at the business first, how it operates, how customers buy, what already works, and where things get stuck, then build the digital tools that actually belong there.

Strategy, design and technology, considered as one system.

The philosophy

Everything has to fit.

A new website doesn’t fix a business that doesn’t know what it is selling. A new software system doesn’t fix a process that was never understood.

We start by understanding the business as a whole, its customers, offer, operations, positioning and ambitions. Technology comes afterward.

The goal isn’t to make every part of the business “better” in isolation. It’s to make the parts work together.

What Arquos does

We figure out what should exist.

Sometimes that means a website. Sometimes it means software behind the website. Sometimes it means changing the way the business works before building anything at all.

01

Understand

We look at the business before proposing a solution. What are you selling? Who is buying? Where does the current experience break down? What already works?

02

Design

We turn that understanding into a clear system, the experience, structure, brand expression and interactions people actually encounter.

03

Build

We build the technology around that system, whether that's a website, custom application, internal tool or something in between.

The deliverable is not the technology. It’s the business working better because of it.

How we work

01

Start with the business.

We don't begin with a sitemap, a tech stack or a list of features. We begin with what the business needs to accomplish.

02

Use what already works.

Most businesses already have valuable knowledge, processes and customer relationships. We look for those strengths before trying to replace them.

03

Build only what earns its place.

Every feature, system and interaction should have a reason to exist. If it doesn't contribute to the business, it doesn't need to be built.

04

Make it understandable.

Good technology shouldn't require a translator. We aim for systems that make sense to the people using them, internally and externally.

Proof2013

A home builder was losing a discount war it couldn’t win on margin.

The obvious answer was to discount further.

Instead, we looked at what the business already had and how it was communicating its value.

Two weeks. One office. A quarter turned around.

The lesson stuck: sometimes the answer isn’t adding something. It’s understanding what is already there.

Where this came from.

Arquos was founded by Matthew Martineau after years spent on the other side of the problem: selling, consulting and working inside real businesses.

Since 2008, that work has ranged from small independent businesses to full production environments across Ontario and Québec.

One lesson kept coming back: businesses rarely need more technology simply for the sake of having it. They need the right things to work together.

Arquos was built around that idea.

Sales · Consulting · Business · Technology

In the founder’s words
“I’ve never believed a business needs to look impressive for the sake of looking impressive. It needs to make sense, to the people running it and to the people buying from it.”

Why Arquos

Business before technology

We don't start by deciding what to build. We start by understanding what the business needs.

One studio

Strategy, design and development don't have to be handed from one company to another. We keep them connected from the first conversation to the final build.

Independent thinking

We're not here to sell you a predetermined solution. If the answer is a website, we'll build one. If it isn't, we'll tell you.

Arquos is a good fit when…

  • You already have a real business, not just an idea.
  • You know something isn't working, but you're not sure whether the answer is technology.
  • Your existing website, tools or processes no longer reflect how the business actually operates.
  • You're looking for someone who will understand the problem before proposing the solution.

If you’re only looking for someone to make a website, there are plenty of options.

If you’re trying to figure out what the business needs next, that’s where we come in.

Start with the problem.

Tell us what’s happening in the business. We’ll figure out whether technology is actually the answer.
